Thuringia Automates Map Production with axpand
Axes Systems, a leading innovator in automatic solutions for map production, is pleased to announce that yet another German state, the state of Thuringia and its state survey offices has chosen to automate the production of their 1:25,000 scale topographic maps with axpand. Axes Systems' award-winning software 'axpand' automates the production and updating of topographic maps in several scales using digital landscape data (DLM) in various models, including German AAA.
Michael Osterhold, director Department 3 Land Survey and Geo-data at Thuringia's state survey, says that the main reason for choosing axpand for their automated production is "The high quality of the generalization, which leads to significant reduction of production cost, as well as the ability to immediately update map products in the regions where our primary database has been updated." Anke Schienmann, director of Data Management and Presentation of Geo-Topography, adds that "The integrated editing of the 1:25,000 maps in axpand means that our cartographers can work on map products independently from the constant changes and activities in the primary database. This way, there is no further workload on and no blocking (locking) of regions in the primary database during map production. This integrated process using axpand significantly improves our planning reliability and efficiency in the map production."
The main task of the state department for survey and geo-information in Thuringia is the preparation of state-wide base geo-data and the production of maps in varying scales. For more information about the German state Thuringia see www.thueringen.de/en/
